July 7th, 2012 Naps are ALSO for Mommy

Its a beautiful thing when we know naps will occur and how long they will likely last because that means mommy gets one too.  You and I both enjoy a well rested Mommy. So far we have identified two major nap times. One hour after your morning feeding and two and a half hours after your afternoon feeding.  The latter nap is a sacred thing.  I do not dare wake either of you.

Thankfully you sleep soundly at night too.

July 6th, 2012 First Doctors Visit

Today was your first visit to the doctor’s office.  Hard for me to believe that you are already 2 weeks old.  While I know that means you are still very young, it also means that I am starting to know you. I am figuring you out, understanding your schedule and needs.

Mom and I were worried about your weight because you lost so much in the hospital, but you are nearly back to your birth weight. This made us happy even though it means we will still have to wake you up in the middle of the night to feed you more.

Keep eating, growing, and stick to that flipping schedule!

July 5th, 2012 The Power of a Burp

I look to the burp during feeding as kind a “at-a-boy”  that I am doing things right.  A nice deep burp with auditory substance (not physical substance!) means all is well. Whats great is the physical way you relax once that bubble has come out.  Its nice to know that there is a simple way I can make the situation all better.  Sometimes I can’t get a burp out of you immediately. So I put you down, you fuss and cry out and then BURP.

All is usually then calm.  Remember calm, and contentment, they are not always so easy to find.

July 4th, 2012 Waredrobe Change

Evidently, you have a deep seated hatred for your onesies. It seems that today you have had it out for the first 3 outfits you have been put in.  This includes your “My First 4th” onesie!  I am glad we took pictures as soon as it was on.You do not seem to discriminate between simple white ones or colorful prints.  You are an equal opportunity soil-er. Not only vomit but #1 and #2 as well…

Maybe Vomit should be #3? Off to do laundry, again…

July 3rd, 2012 Bouncing, Jostling, and Vibrating

So basically anything that is not smooth and in motion is your friend, or at least holds your attention for a while. It may even help your digestion, although that hypothesis may backfire. Here is the thing, my arms can’t do this forever. Enter bouncy chair stage right.

This magical seat suspended from a bent wire frame has one D-size battery and a vibrating feature to make the whole chair shake–quietly! This motion, along with your own arm and leg flailing, gives you quite the ride.

Excuse me, I have to go change a diaper…

July 2nd, 2012 Waterworks Logic

One would think this would be obvious, but if not, here’s what we have learned about waterworks and diaper changes today:

If there is a dirty but dry diaper, there could be spray. We were warned about this situation.
If there is a dirty and wet diaper, there could still be spray.
If there is a clean but wet diaper, there could also still be spray.

Therefore, wet diaper does not necessarily = no spray.

July 1st, 2012 Alonzo

So while I doubt its a Volvo specific thing, you most definitely enjoy car rides.  Now that I think of it its not just a car thing, generally as long as you are being moved, jostled, walked with  your at least copacetic. I have heard of the car trick before, of parents on their last nerve putting the screaming baby in the back of the car and going for a ride.

With this little pearl of wisdom it becomes more clear to me why foreign oil is so important: without it there would be a lot more unhappy babies, and frazzled parents.

June 30th, 2012 Vomit in Vogue

I guess somewhere in baby prep school, (you know that prep school before birth), you had a course on when it is the most effective to let loose with a torrent of milk vomit.  I understand that sometimes you may swallow a bit too much at one time and need to get rid of a bit of it.  But! filling your car seat? Is that really necessary?  Could you at least give us a heads up?

“Yo Dad, Mom, here comes the tsunami!”

Just remember that… next time give us a shout out :-). Please?
